2023-04-24 Emergency Preparedness Bulletin – Family Emergency Communications Plan

Welcome to our third Emergency Preparedness Bulleting. Our first two bulletins discussed Emergency Alerts and Warnings and having an Emergency Supply Kit. Now you know the types of alerts, how you can receive them and you have an Emergency Supply Kit. But what if your family is not together? Let’s talk about it…

During a disaster, electricity could be disrupted and communications networks could become unreliable. Or networks could become overwhelmed with the massive effort of “everyone” in the disaster impacted area trying to communicate on the same network. So, what if your family is not together when a disaster strikes? Does every family member know how to get in contact with each other? How do you know they are safe and how do they know you are safe? Having a Family Emergency Communications Plan and knowing where family members will meet up in an emergency are important keys to emergency preparedness. The link below will take you to a document created by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which you can also find at https://www.ready.gov. In fact, if you go to the website, you will find a fillable template that you can complete and end up with a “pdf” version of your Family Emergency Communications Plan to share with all of your family members.

Have a Great Day, Stay Alert, Have a Plan, and Be Prepared!
